Overview
Afterword is looking to bring on an Outbound Sales Manager to build deep and personal relationships with funeral homes around the country. This is the perfect position for someone with a strong background in sales or business development who is looking to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. The Outbound Sales Manager will be directly responsible for the full sales cycle and acquiring new customers. They will work to understand how each funeral home operates and the vital role homes play in helping families remember their loved ones.
The manager will work directly with the co-founders to refine our sales strategies, product feedback loops, and related collateral. They know how to personalize their communication, and they’re acutely aware of how to maximize their outreach with the appropriate communication tools. They are expert executors and can grow into leaders and managers of a larger team.
This position is remote-friendly or based in New York.
Responsibilities
- Prospect and qualify new customers. You can take a strategic directive or list of companies and jump into action: organizing the list, prioritizing strategic accounts, discovering decision makers, formulating the messaging, and optimizing your outreach.
- Acquire new customers. You thrive on goals and creating results. You’re excited by the idea of picking up the phone, getting to know a new business, and having them sign on the dotted line.
- Manage hundreds of partner contacts and all details of relationships. You are the face of Afterword to the funeral homes we work with. You maintain detailed, organized, and methodical notes of all conversations, and you care about the quality of service we provide more than anything else.
- Educate customers on our service offerings and relay product feedback to our team. You can explain our services to every type of person without missing a beat. You know when to ask more follow ups to understand organization dynamics and their role in helping families. You know how and when to solicit feedback and distill that to our product team.
- Influence the future partnership strategy. Working directly with the co-founders, you’ll gain unique insight into our customers and how we can best expand our impact. You’ll have regular opportunities to experiment with messaging and our overall partnership strategy to support even more families.
Requirements
- Clear, concise, and down-to-earth communication. Nobody's royalty here. You can speak to everyone as if they're a friendly acquaintance.
- Strong familiarity with selling into traditional, brick-and-mortar industries. You understand how family-run businesses operate and the challenges of running a physical establishment. You don’t need to have experience in the funeral industry.
- High level of ownership and accountability. You’ll be the first sales teammate at Afterword. The idea of working in an ambiguous environment and turning ambiguity into direction excites you.
- Urgent bias towards action. There are thousands of organizations who would benefit from our services, and we need to operate swiftly, with a strong sense of purpose.
- Comfort being close to death & grieving families. If you've made it this far, we think you meet this one already. But in case it wasn't clear, you'll be talking about death every day.
